One day I was on Myspace looking for art as usual and stumbled upon the beautiful works of Michael Shapcott. What made this particular experience unusual was the fact that Mr. Shapcott actually recorded the entire process of him painting many of his pieces including this one to the left! That’s right…free of charge you can witness a master at work right from the convenience of your desk at home. Wow. Not the least bit of insecurity shown in his game. Kudos sir.

As I delved into Shapcott’s universe (as the French say) I felt vulnerable…not in a bitchy and cowardly way but in a reflective and emotional way. The eyes are fiery and itimidating in some cases, while in others they are docile and soothing. His portraits gave me the feeling I was actually peering into the eyes of these people. The portraits have life. He GAVE them life. More life than some actual people I’ve met sad to say. So, I messaged him on Myspace and….(drumroll) he messaged me back! Anyway, I wasn’t able to get the full interview I wanted from him but who’s to say it won’t happen in the near future. ;) Enough of me running my trap….below are more pictures and a video of a genius at work.

The picture from the video, Onawa, is below.
