I was talking with this 12 year old kid Brandon at the office today and he told me Soulja Boy was one of his favorite artists. I can’t hate on Soulja boy because he’s doing his thing utilizing one of the best media campaigns ever. HOWEVER, i can’t understand a goddam thing he says. I looked up the lyrics to his song today and I swear to god the lyrics were “aildfad ayyyyyyya poywww qpwoi epoeru !!!!!! Crank dat 2o3449laka !!!!!!!!!”…Music has changed. If you’re a rapper or singer trying to get on and all you do is rap or sing…sorry to burn your hopes but the chances are slim to none. The industry isn’t looking for “normal” acts now. (Rappers especially shouldn’t quit their day jobs) In order to make it now its as if you gotta tap dance, juggle, and sing at the same time. A whole lot of listeners that grew up and learned what music “should” sound like are now stuck in limbo. Hip-Hop is for 12 year olds. The 21+ must remain calm and wait for the “new” new school of the industry and behind the scenes, industry execs await that Messiah.
